Packaging: McBurrow’s Vitamins by Savannah Julian

American graphic designer Savannah Julian has worked on this cool packaging project for a set of products by McBurrow’s Vitamins. She used a retro apothecary style packaging that works very well for the vitamins.

“This set of vitamin bottles and powdered drink mix is a departure from typical health and drug packaging.”

Branding: Smartson by Igor Manasteriotti

I love this great little branding project by Croatian designer Igor Manasteriotti for smartphone store and service centre Smartson.

The logo is fun and approachable and the overall concept of the store is very fun and vibrant. I love the small touches like the beautiful name tags and the moustaches on sticks.

The Best of Watch Design – Baselworld 2013

As a product design studio with an emphasis on watches, and coming from a watch design background myself, Baselworld is an absolute must. You get to see brand new collection, get an idea of upcoming trends and network like a crazy person.

Here’s a very quick snapshot of my favourites at this year’s show in no particular order (and for those of you who know the fair well, you won’t be surprised to learn that most of them are from the Palace).

1) Jacquet Droz – Charming Bird

Since being able to get a quick behind the scenes viewing of the Bird Repeater my love for this brand has only grown stronger. The watches are amazing and this one is no exception.

2) Valbray Watches

This watch features a sort of closing and opening aperture. OK – it sounds a bit gimmicky, but in actual fact the watch is very well designed and the sliding open/close function is really fun to play with.

3) Shinola – The Runwell

For first appearance at Baselworld, this ‘Made in USA’ brand seemed to go down a storm. At $550, it is expensive for a Quartz, but I’m all for their manufacturing ethos of wanting to bring industry back to Detroit.

4) Ressence – Type 3

I’d seen the Ressence watches a few times before this Baselworld, but this new liquid-filled version is just amazing.

5) Manufacture Royale – Androgyne

Again, this is a brand that we’ve seen a few times, but seriously – check out that crazy ass case.

Phew! Ok so we are back from a very interesting but fun Baselworld 2013. I got to go backstage at the Jacquet Droz stand to see my favourite watch, the Bird Repeater – a feat normally reserved for journalists or potential buyers, of which I am neither.

The watch is unbelievable. Seriously, it’s unreal.

Anyway, this morning I thought I’s share with you this amazing food photography for Molécule-R Flavors by Chez Valois. Warning – it WILL make you hungry.

Packaging: Ground & Brewed by Ramiro Carranza

I love this packaging for coffee manufacturer Ground & Brewed by graphic designer Ramiro Carranza. The touch of green is a great addition and a touch of modern in an otherwise vintage branding.

“Ground & Brewed is a 100% organic coffee manufacturer. I wanted to give it a vintage & organic look to it, and make it look very ‘home made.’ All the materials used are also 100% recyclable.”

Branding: Coffee Mill Identity

This is a great branding concept for a coffee chain by Italian designers Nicoletta Sperati and Giulia Loperto.

The logo is very well-balanced and the packaging with the bright pops of colour is awesome. I love that they have included moodboards of how the cafes should look to help understand the overall concept of the brand.

Turkish graphic designer Burcu İmdat worked on this great idea for Nestle Chocolate Chip Cookie packaging. I love the patter with the spatula and whisk, and the big ol’ cup of milk is a great addition. Check out more of her work here.

Russian graphic designer Max Lapteff worked on this great branding for the Consulting agency dialog. I love how he has used speech marks in the logo and on then again in the signage and letterheads.

Take a look at this branding for No. Men’s Skin Care by London-based Taiwanese graphic designer Shou-Wei Tsai.

I love the giant numbers on the tubes and the brushed aluminium packaging. It’s very smart and modern with a touch of vintage ‘apothecary’ style.

Art: The Paper Factory by Antoine Biesmans

I adore this project, The Paper Factory, by Belgian graphic designer Antoine Biesmans. The campaign is actually anti-paper factories, denouncing the dangers of making conventional paper – deforestation, water pollution and overuse of electricity.
