Packaging: Thorsteinn Beer Brand

I love this project for beer packaging by Icelandic designers Thorleifur Gunnar Gíslason, Geir Olafsson and Hlynur Ingólfsson.

The idea is to flip traditional ‘label’ packaging on its head and turning this space into a kind of showcase for graphic designers. 10 bottles, 10 designers, 10 different graphics changed annually.

I like the idea and I think that it would stand out on a shelf, but as soon as two brands starting to do something like this they may have to find something stronger for the branding, like a bottle shape for example.

  1. I agree with your comments in here. It’s a brilliant way to get designers ideas out into the world, but this doesn’t create a strong brand for themselves. As you say, to stand out even more, and stop copy cat, a differing bottle shape or maybe outer packaging would help this to really wow consumers. Still, nice idea though!
