It was when I first saw a Mr. Jones watch inscribed with ‘remember you will die’ that I was introduced to the concept of a Memento Mori. Described by wikipedia as “a genre of artistic work which varies widely, but which all share the same purpose: to remind people of their own mortality” this is anything but a new concept.
Quite a few watch brands have embraced this idea, I mean, what better to remind you of the passing of time than a watch? Some brands have been subtle, whereas others have gone full on skull-and-crossbones. I’m a fan, but what do you think? Quirky and interesting or just too depressing?
