I had never really thought of a foil selector as something beautiful, but then I saw this sexy little number by Japanese graphic designer Makoto Kamimura and instantly changed my mind.

I love this project by Leeds-based designer Sarah Pritchard. Keeping Organised is a pack for students in their first year of the BA Graphic Design course to help them – well – keep organised.

“The pack comes in an A3 plastic folder, and contains 2 Notebooks, 4 Module Folders, USB Stick, To Do List Pad, and an Academic Year Wall Calendar.”

Graphic Design: The Big Sleep by Oliver Jackson

Leeds based designer Oliver Jackson decided to work on a concept cover for The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler.

As a famous book, we are used to seeing tons of different covers, some with guns, others with screaming women and others still with surly looking detectives smoking cigarettes. Oliver had decided to strip all that away and let the intrigue be the lack of information, leaving the reader to discover the story by themselves.

Product Design: Manly Marks Letterpress Book by Brandon Griswold

Manly Marks is a great project for a hand-bound letterpress book by Brandon Griswold that I spotted over on Kickstarter, recently funded over and beyond it’s modest $14,000 target.

It’s a very funny, tongue-in-cheek 60 page letterpress book about what it is to be a man, including subjects like “beard growing, handiwork, carpentry, firm handshakes, and bacon consumption.”

Art: Aurora del Saber by Francisco Ibarra

Aurora del Saber is a great little experimental book project by Argentinian designer Francisco Ibarra.

The idea behind it is to create a sort of visual encyclopaedia through “the combination of print and digital elements“.

I love the worn out, read and re-read look about it. It’s so tactile and visually appealing.

Graphic Design: The Secret to Making a Difference by BMD

“The Secret to Making a Difference” is a fantastic design project by Bruce Mau Design to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the MDC Partners network, of which they are a member.

Not only is it well designed, but it’s also playful, clever and interactive. For me, in a world where books are slowly dying away – this is where their future lies. In the tangible, the playful and thought-provoking.

No kindle I’ve ever seen had contained invisible ink, bumper stickers, tattoos AND a ballon.
